Summer Internship Profile: Max Sweeney

Max Sweeney

MOSAIC

Artist Residency

I assisted with maintenance, installation, and de-installation of art exhibits at Gallery 51, role in planning and executing arts and culture events such as First Friday, attending art exhibitions and theater performances for group learning/exposure, and leading, developing, and finalizing an independent project for display at Gallery 51.

“This experience so far has been a very valuable look into the world of working artists as well as the planning and management of arts and culture events and resources.

Something that I’ve found to be very helpful is working with artists on the installation of their artworks, and observing them make decisions about placement, lighting, and size; especially because I get to see the whole exhibition come together and reflect on how those decisions make a particular impression on the audience.

I’ve also been creating visual aids and diagrams for my art history workshop to help illustrate very abstract concepts like the relationship between an artist and their audience, or the combination of different design elements to create unified compositions. It’s been an interesting challenge to find ways of visualizing and communicating these topics.”
