As creatives we often explore more than one form of artistic expression to channel or convey our ideas, truths, and feelings. This new poetry collective, the I Am… series, will feature poems written by MCLA faculty and staff. Creating a space for a new community here on the Sm[ART] Commons Blog.
This week we present Dr. Jeanette Smith, Vice President of Student Affairs.

I am my momma’s heartbeat, my daddy’s secret, surrounded by the angel soft wings of siblings unknown.
I am my husband’s favorite, we care for each other’s hearts, cheer on each other as we individually navigate trails up and down mountains of personal growth
I am my children’s fiercest protector, a well of unyielding support and love that knows no depth.
Mercies and blessings in abundance, I am highly favored and walk in a spiritual truth that grounds my soul.
I am that friend who is called upon to listen with compassion, speak joy, pour out light, remind us of possibilities.
Always wanting to read more, a life-long learner who is curious about everything, I am a scholar who revels in the golden pot of untapped unknowledge at the rainbow’s end
I am enough.
